Let’s talk about Milk Glass!
Did you know that milk glass was first made in 16th Century Venice?
Milk glass was porcelains competition, and came in many colors such as blue, yellow, black, pink etc...
White milk glass that most of us are familiar with came to be an item during the Victorian era. Victorian’s named it “Milk Glass!”
Through the years of the Great Depression, milk glass lost its’ popularity. After WWII, and with the capability of mass production, milk glass grew again in popularity.
You can find some lovely pieces at almost any vintage and antique shop. What a beautiful way to “Spring Forward,” and lighten/brighten up any room in your home!
Milk glass is fairly affordable. Here’s a good tip to spot the real deal...1960s and earlier. (Yes, there are milk glass imposters out there.)
Look for the “Ring of Fire.” Older milk glass was made with iridized salts, and will produce a halo of iridescent reds, blues and greens in the sun.
If you have any milk glass pieces, feel free to show them off in comments below.
Have a sunshiny day friends !
