Oh the suitcase! Heavy trunks of wood and leather, with iron bases were once the most SUITable way to travel on steamships.
As steamships drifted off and stagecoaches road off into the sunset, they took the trunk with them.
Enter in automobile travel, and eventually air travel. Both would redefine the suitcase.
As air travel evolved, so did the suitcase. Modern designs are directly linked to airline regulations.
There’s so much more to be said about the suitcase, and how it’s continually reinvented itself. I’m going to leave the history lesson here, and shift gears.
Let’s talk about those wonderful, beautiful antique and vintage suitcases that hit the scene with the onset of mass tourism. You know, the ones many of us walk past in the antique stores, thrift stores, and estate sales.
