Gateleg tables!

I have a gateleg table that I inherited three decades ago. It came from my Grandparents home. Czechoslovakian immigrants, they came to America in the 1930’s with their three children, one being my mother. As they furnished their small cottage, each piece of furniture was treasured, and well taken care of. I have fond memories of that gateleg table proudly displayed in their front room. I’m privileged to have it in my own home now. Gateleg tables have two drop leaves, usually D shapes that are supported upon gates. The gates are either hinged or pivoted. Gateleg tables were first used in England during the 16th Century. The William and Mary style was quite popular in Colonial America. Of course, named after the King and Queen on England who reigned from 1689 to 1694. The earliest gateleg tables were typically made of oak. We appreciate their history, as they are one of the earliest forms of a dropleaf table. They are also an excellent and versatile space saving table.
